Foster Street Railroad Crossing Cleared Following Morning Train Crash
LITTLETON — Police Chief Matthew Pinard reports that the Foster Street railroad crossing has been cleared following a crash involving an MBTA Commuter Rail train and a tractor trailer that occurred this morning. The impacted portion of Foster Street remains closed temporarily, however.
Shortly after 11 a.m., a train collided with a tractor trailer at the railroad crossing on Foster Street near the Littleton/495 train station. There were no injuries as a result of the crash, and the train did not derail. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the MBTA Police.
The warning lights at the crossing were damaged in the crash and repairs are expected to occur over the coming days. In the meantime, the MBTA and Keolis, the contractor that runs the commuter rail, have instituted a “stop and protect” order for the crossing, which requires trains to come to a complete stop while a conductor exits the train to stop vehicular traffic.
The impacted portion of Foster Street is expected to remain closed for a few more hours to ensure its safety.
Any further inquiries about the crash should be directed to MBTA Police.
